چکیده

The following points are important to remember in the quest to achieve a successful dairy reproductive program: • Pregnancy rate is a sensitive and valuable indicator of reproductive performance. • Insemination risk and conception risk are components of pregnancy rate. • Low heat detection accuracy can reduce conception risk and ultimately decrease pregnancy rate. • In an on-going heat detection accuracy study, the percentage of cows not in heat when inseminated varied between herds, from 0 to 13%, signifying a specific individual herd problem. Overall the average heat detection accuracy across all 10 dairies was 95.3%. • Evaluate AI technicians by • considering the numbers necessary to draw meaningful conclusions, • going behind the numbers and stratifying by insemination code or lactation number, • asking the question: Are the AI technicians breeding the same types of cows? • comparing like groups, or “apples to apples” and not “apples to oranges.” • Proper semen handling and deposition of semen is critical to the success of an AI program. • Continuing education is important to the success of an AI technician’s career and to the profitability of a dairy.

Comparison of three estrus detection systems during summer heat stress in a large commercial dairy herd

The objective of the study was to compare three systems for detection of estrus and combinations of these systems on a large commercial dairy (1000 lactating cows) during stress of summer heat. At 37 to 45 days in milk (DIM), 266 cows were fitted with a HeatWatch (HW) device (HeatWatch; DDx Inc., Boulder, CO), an activity (A) sensor (ALPRO; DeLaval Inc., Kansas City, MO), and observed visually ...

Development and Evaluation of Real-Time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction Test for Quantitative and Qualitative Recognition of H5 Subtype of Avian Influenza Viruses

Avian influenza viruses (AIV) affect a wide range of birds and mammals, cause severe economic damage to the poultry industry, and pose a serious threat to humans. Highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAI) H5N1 were first identified in Southeast Asia in 1996 and spread to four continents over the following years. The viruses have caused high mortality in chickens and various bird species ...

Comparison of patient-collected and lab technician-collected nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs for detection of COVID-19 by RT-PCR

Background & Objective:  A simple approach to prevent close contact in healthcare settings during the COVID-19 outbreak is to train patients to collect their own nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs and deliver them to medical laboratories to have them processed. The aim of our study was to c...

Detection of avian influenza virus of H9 subtype in the feces of experimentally infected chickens by RT–PCR

Avian Influenza (AI) is a viral respiratory disease of domestic and wild birds. In the diagnostic laboratory, it is essential to have methods for rapid detection of avian respiratory viruses. Cloacal swabs collected from chickens experimentally infected with H9 subtype AI virus, used in a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay for detection of AI. In infected animals, ...

Effects of supplemental chromium picolinate and chromium nanoparticles on performance and antibody titers of infectious bronchitis and avian influenza of broiler chickens under heat stress condition

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of different levels chromium picolinate (CrPic) and chromium nanoparticles (nano-Cr) on the performance and immune function of broilers under heat stress condition. A total of 320 Ross 308 broiler chicks (from 21 to 42 days) were assigned randomly into eight treatment groups (four replicates per treatment, and 10 chicks per replicate) a...
